Genoa in the Summer

Walking around Genoa and just seeing amazing things down the caruggi was one of my favorite things. This was a regular occurrence where we’d walk by and just see some amazing view or building or event nice shadows. The caruggi were so easy to get lost in. I could spend more time there doing just photography.

The reminder that it was super hot our entire time there too—which was not one of my favorite things. This made it really hard to want to do all the photography. I’d end each day just completely beat up, and partially dehydrated. Thankfully our apartment had A/C.

June in Photos

It was hot at Eno River State Park, but the sky was beautiful!

We didn’t do too many photography trips in June, only going to a few places—but those places were great!

It had been more than 5 years since we went down to the beach, which is absurd—it’s only about 2 hours drive from here. We finally fixed this with a day trip to Kure Beach, NC.

I unfortunately got sunscreen in my eyes so didn’t feel like taking many more photos—hopefully we go again in July.

We spent some time on this beach, but the rocks nearby was a nicer photo

Last weekend we tried to visit Eno River State Park, but it was too hot and humid, so we didn’t stay long.

This root covered trail was the path to the canoe launch! Very difficult.

I’ve been meaning to make more photo posts here over the years and always forget. I am posting over on flickr somewhat regularly but I’d really like to keep this as the source of all the things I am doing and will do. Unfortunately I don’t really want to flood several photo posts here so instead it’ll be a medley of my favorite photos so far this year.

In 2020 we did a lot of parks and nature photos. Starting off this year we thought we’d change things a bit and walk around Durham instead.

In March, we were back to our old nature photography loving selves with trips to both Falls Lake and Wilkerson Nature Preserve.

This tree in Falls Lake was really fun to photograph, it looks very ominous.

I tried to do some hyperlapses of the waves, but this photo of my phone recording turned out much better.

Wilkerson Nature Preserve has a trail full of fairy houses in their "Fairy Migration", this red door into a tree stump was my favorite

In April, we tried to get some spring flowers into the mix with a visit to the WRAL Azalea Garden.

These tulips just looked so nice

Not flowers but this staircase looked really cool!

West Point on the Eno in October

The falls at West Point on the Eno. If you look close there is a Heron.

Throughout the Pandemic we’ve tried to keep doing things—but safely. This has led to a lot of walking through local parks. In most cases there are fewer people and enough space to stay distant. This park was really nice and I can’t believe after living here for 20 years I have never been.

Durham in October

I picked up a used a7s recently and started carrying it with me. Walking to my car from work seemed like a good opportunity to practice taking some photos of downtown Durham. I’m still learning the camera and forgot to switch it to RAW, but I found a few nice images.

Umstead Park, September 2019

Sunday after a quick lunch at a small diner in Raleigh, we took our new camera over to Umstead Park in Raleigh. We walked down the “Sycamore” path until we reached a small creek with some running water. It was a nice mini-adventure and it’s always good to get some exposure to trees!

I wanted to test the video with my Deity microphone, I think it looks and sounds pretty good!

I jumped around all these rocks around the creek and didn't even fall in!

This tree was covered in carvings of couples marking their time in the park

One Charge Trip to Wilson, NC

The Whirligig Park is very nice.

This weekend was the return of our One Charge Trips adventures where we travel to interesting locations from our house on one charge of our electric cars. This time we visited Wilson, NC and it’s wonderful Whirligig park.

These were all made from recycled components.

The artist wanted them to be called "Windmills", but whirligig—or ’gigs—seemed to stick

Chicago, October 2017

The Cloud Gate or "Bean" is really fun to photograph.

This year I decided to attend the Release Notes Conference in Chicago. We decided to stretch the trip out a bit and make it a mini-vacation giving us an opportunity to explore Chicago and see Hamilton.

Approaching the Cloud Gate and seeing it through the trees is a bit surreal.

Fall was just getting started.

Our hotel was on historic Route 66. I guess we got “our kicks”.

I really like taking photos of skylines through windows. This is from the Art Institute.

On our way back from Chicago, we bought tickets to see the Foo Fighters in Lexington, Ky. Unfortunately the show was postponed, but driving through Kentucky gave us the opportunity to visit the Louisville Slugger Museum and Factory.

This bat is probably 3-4 stories tall.

They had a walk of fame outside featuring baseball players. Here, Babe Ruth.

As the MLB playoffs are still underway, their champion bat display still had last year's champion: Cleveland!

Louisville was actually a fun little town. As you'd expect, they have a Bourbon District.

American Tobacco Campus with a New Camera
